| Any resident wishing to obtain a NJ Firearms ID card must first submit to a criminal history and mental health background check as well as submitting fingerprints to the NJ State Police and the FBI. The inital process takes approximately four to six months. Upon receiving your NJ Firearms ID card you may then apply for a pistol purchase permit is you so wish.
